How Do You Know If The Yorkies For Sale In Colorado Are The Right Breed For You

By James Gray

People who love dogs, but live in tiny condos and apartments, need to give careful thought to the kind of puppy companion they get. They have to look for a breed that thrives in small spaces and won't bother neighboring tenants living on either side of them, or above and below. There may be no more suitable pet in the world for apartment dwellers that the Yorkies for sale in Colorado. In addition, when you buy one of these pups you'll have the honor of owning America's most popular toy breed.

With their cute little topknots, silky coats, bright eyes, and bigger than they are personalities, these dogs can be a delightful addition to the right family. They are not for everyone however. If you have small children, this is not the dog for you. Responsible breeders won't even sell their pups to families that have children under the age of six or seven.

Families who are at work or school all day, leaving their pet on his own for long stretches of time, need some other animal. If you are interested in, or do not have the time, to keep your Yorkie groomed, you probably would be happier with a short haired dog. Yorkies are notoriously hard to house train. Crating is recommended. For families without the kind of patience needed to get through this step, a more accommodating breed should be considered.

Yorkshires can be yappers, which can bring you in conflict with your neighbors, and drive you crazy, if you do not teach him early on when to raise the alarm and when to be quiet. Most Yorkshires see Rottweilers when they look in the mirror and won't think twice about confronting unfamiliar dogs. To avoid this, you have to take pains to socialize them at a very young age. Yorkies will sometimes pick at their food and have the kind of digestive issues that need the attention of a vet.

The dogs can be snappish if they get startled and may have separation anxiety if left alone too long. Yorkshires are very intuitive. They will pick up on your mood and react accordingly. If you are nervous and over protective of them, Yorkshires can become anxious and nervous themselves.

Yorkshires do not always lose their baby teeth. When this happens they should see a vet. This will lead to tooth decay eventually, when the adult teeth start to move down and get crooked.

On a positive note, you don't need to spend countless hours outdoors with your Yorkie. These are active dogs, but walking them around the block should be sufficient if they have lots of inside playtime. Yorkies don't tolerate cold well. They will get colds if they are overexposed.

These are generally healthy little dogs, but like all breeds they are prone to certain conditions. You want to get the parent's health clearances from the breeder to make sure there are no genetic issues. All in all, Yorkies make wonderful pets for anyone looking for a bright, affectionate, elegant little dog.
